Each time I write the date on the board for my English class, I am shocked at how quickly time is flying. I take that opportunity to teach silly idioms like "Time Flies!" and proceed to draw pictures of clocks with wings. I'm sure these people think I'm nuts, but hey,the classes are free and they love me anyway! ;) As I think about leaving my English students after this year, I'm really sad, but I'm looking forward to a new season and a new chapter. I really thought this time last year that I'd be on my way overseas or back to IL by 2014. God has much different plans, obviously, as I'm getting ready to start my third year in California with no plans of leaving in the near future! I'm thankful for the opportunities each new day brings, and I'm learning how to trust the Father in each moment.
My students' rules on the right and mine on the left. Notice "come on time" is NOT on my side of the board!
Some cute kids I taught to look like Walruses at an Arabic conference on Labor Day weekend!
September brought HOME IMPROVEMENTS!! We got a bookcase (no more boxes of books lining the walls!), curtains, shelves, and a shoe rack for when guests come over! Very exciting!
A big part of my job is to find a catalog places like this! I may go and visit some day when my research leads me to Russians!
Almost my favorite season!! (Happy early Reformation Day!)
Culinary adventures in San Diego! (while visiting a good friend from high school!)
I got to attend the Grand Opening of a local Persian non-profit (I volunteer with them to teach ESL) and it was quite the fancy shindig! I even had dinner with a star of a reality show!
A beautiful tapestry at the rug gallery where the grand opening was.If I had unlimited money, and the world was fed and everyone knew the Gospel.... that's what I'd buy! :)
Some girls from the youth group after our first apartment event!
